FACILITIES

Before it was Roberta’s, this was the main public library of Aarhus — a democratic space where people came to read, meet, and spend time. We’ve held on to that legacy, not with plaques or tributes, but by keeping the house open and alive.

Since 1934

Originally built as Aarhus’ Main Library.

designed by Alfred Mogensen and Harald Salling-Mortensen.

Shaped
by Time

Expanded in the 1960s and 70s to meet a growing city’s needs — new wings, new technologies, new ways of gathering.

A Modern Classic

A synthesis of neoclassicism and modernist functionalism — red brick symmetry, generous windows, thoughtful form.

AN EVER LASTING SPIRIT

The architecture still speaks, and we’ve tried to listen.

There are corners for quiet, spaces for gatherings, rooms that carry stories. It’s been restored with care, but not frozen in time.

It’s still a house for the city.
Just with beds and wine now.

A New Chapter

In 2015, the library moved to DOKK1. This building stayed — and was reimagined for life, community, and hospitality.

TOGETHERNESS

Now, as Roberta’s, the spirit of the old library lives on — not just as a memory, but as a feeling. Where once we came to gather knowledge, we now come to gather each other. Friends meet here. Families reconnect. Strangers become new companions over coffee, books, or a late glass of wine.

It’s still a place for quiet moments and meaningful conversations, for reflection and celebration. The stories are no longer just in the books, but in the people who fill the rooms.

Together, we’ve made this house a home again — not by looking back, but by being present, together.
