COME AS YOU ARE –
STAY AS LONG AS YOU LIKE
Roberta’s Society is a place to stay, eat, and gather.
Housed in a former library from the 1930s, we’ve kept the character and filled it with new energy. A home for travelers, locals, the in-betweeners, and the just-passing-through.
Book a room. Or a bed. Join a communal dinner.
Or don’t. Grab a coffee, stick around,
see what happens.
There’s always something going on — screenings, talks, yoga, slow mornings, late nights.
And down in the basement? Roberta’s Stage.
A small club with a big heart. Live acts, low-key parties, unexpected moments – that’s what
it’sall about.
Before it was Roberta’s, this was the main public library of Aarhus — a democratic space where people came to read, meet, and spend time. We’ve held on to that legacy, not with plaques or tributes, but by keeping the house open and alive.
The architecture still speaks, and we’ve tried to listen.
There are corners for quiet, spaces for gatherings, rooms that carry stories. It’s been restored with care, but not frozen in time.
It’s still a house for the city.
Just with beds and wine now.
We believe hospitality shouldn’t feel like a transaction.
It should feel like arriving somewhere that just makes sense. Where the design is considered, the food is good, the people are real — and the prices don’t make your eyes water.
Roberta’s is built for connection.
Between guests. Between locals. Between then and now.
This isn’t a hotel with a concept. It’s a house with a heartbeat. A place that adapts to whoever walks through the door — no matter where they came from or how long they plan to stay.
Affordable doesn’t have to look or taste bad.
You’re allowed to enjoy the good things
without dressing up for them.

Roberta’s Society is part of Kolpin Hotels — founded by Alexander and Jes Kølpin, and built on a deep love of architecture, design, and the feeling of a place done right.
Each Kolpin property is its own thing, but they all share a quiet ambition: to feel more like a private home than a hotel. High-end, low-key, and full of atmosphere. It’s about thoughtful spaces, warm hosting, and details that speak for themselves.
We care about where things come from. That’s why Kolpin takes pride in restoring old buildings — respecting their history, refining their interiors, and keeping them alive for new generations.
Alongside Roberta’s in Aarhus, the Kolpin family also includes Hotel Sanders in Copenhagen and Helenekilde Badehotel in Tisvilde. Three very different places. Same eye for detail. Same sense of welcome.
With a background in classical ballet – and a celebrated career as a soloist at The Royal Danish Ballet – Alexander Kølpin brings a sense of artistry and atmosphere into the world of hospitality.
Named “Best Male Dancer in the World” in 1993, he understands the power of setting, storytelling, and detail. That mindset now shapes the Kolpin Hotels universe, where every space is designed to feel both personal and poetic.
Alexander is the founder and owner of Kolpin Hotels, including Hotel Sanders and Helenekilde Badehotel – and co-founder of Roberta’s Society in Aarhus. For him, hospitality is more than service – it’s a kind of quiet performance, with a strong sense of place at the centre.
With over 35 years in the world of hospitality – both in Denmark and abroad – Karim Nielsen brings deep knowledge, strategic focus, and a genuine passion for creating meaningful guest experiences.
He’s held senior executive roles across the industry, spent two decades as CEO, and currently serves on several boards. Karim is known for his clear leadership and collaborative spirit, always aiming to push things forward without losing sight of what feels real and human.
Since 2022, he’s been CEO of Kolpin Hotels and co-founder of Roberta’s Society, where his experience meets a house full of life.
